Donating an organ is a pretty huge deal.

People who donate organs usually donate to loved ones and close relatives in a generous offering of love and commitment. But what about those estranged family members who are in desperate need of an organ, but have views and beliefs that many don’t agree with?

Putting your life on the line for another person isn’t a decision that you make overnight, but, for many, donating an organ to a loved one in need is a simple choice and hundreds of thousands of people every year go through with this generous move.

Organ donations saves lives.

This is the main reason that so many people put themselves forward to donate an organ – it helps others.

Of course, organs such as the heart or the lungs cannot be carried out through a living donor, but organs such as kidneys, parts of the intestines, and parts of the pancreas can be donated through a living donor and will allow both participants to lead healthy and long lives.

Kidney donations are very common…

There are currently 100,000 people in the United States currently waiting on the national transplant list to donate a kidney. These can be random donations or donations in aid of a family member or friend.

Like any other surgery, a kidney transplant does have its risks…

There is always a small chance of kidney rejection, in which the body rejects the new kidney, causing infections and organ failures. But, despite this small risk, people are often happy to go under the knife in order to help to save and enrich another life.

America’s sweetheart, Selena Gomez, opened up in 2017 about having a kidney transplant due to having lupus, and her best friend, Francia Raisa, was the person who donated a kidney to her.

Speaking about her experience on her Instagram account, Selena expressed her gratitude to her best friend by saying: “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

So, offering to donate a kidney to someone is a pretty big deal…

And the person who you are donating to must either be in desperate need of this donation, or they must be an important part of your life.

Typically, a kidney donor will spend 2 days in the hospital and, on average, it takes around 2 weeks to be back up on your feet, going about your normal, day-to-day life. This, in the long run, isn’t a long period of time to be recovering at all, which ultimately encourages many to go through with the donation.

Posting on the private Facebook group, I Dream Of Being This Petty, the American woman, who is a qualified nurse, explained that her grandad urgently needed a kidney transplant in order to save his life when she was sixteen-years-old.

She refused. She explained why on the Facebook group, noting that her grandad was an active Ku Klux Klan member and supporter, and he was also a pedophile.

It is a barbaric fact that there are still individuals out there who consider themselves members and supporters of the Klan.

There are still individuals across America who remain stuck in the past and continue to voice hate, abuse, and discrimination against innocent people.

Very few details were given about this, but the anonymous woman claimed that her grandad was… well, not a good human being.

She said explicitly: “I don’t grow kidneys for Klan members and pedos.” “I registered as a live donor the day he died, and I’m donating to a complete stranger next year instead.”

The woman was given a tidal wave of support…

Users were quick to applaud her decision, writing comments such as: “Totally not the a******. F*** your boss. And the fact that you’re donating your kidney is amazing and you’re awesome.”

“As a living donor, thank you for saving your organ for someone worth it. You’re going to have a huge a** scar and whatever you do, do not get pregnant 6 weeks later or it will lead to multiple failed abdominal reconstructions, but that s*** is on me. Lol,” another user wrote.

Many criticized his adamance on his granddaughter giving him a kidney after his sickening and illegal acts and views.

Her body, her rules…

“That’s your kidney so you do whatever you want with it. You have no reason to reduce your lifespan for a bad person. I wish I had this level of courage because I’d certainly not handle people guilt-tripping me,” another person expressed.

Yes, this man was a member of her family. But what he did to innocent children and the unorthodox views that he held were unforgivable to this young woman. She simply didn’t want to waste a healthy organ on a person like him, when she could donate to somebody who truly deserves to live. Feel like reading a more heartwarming tale of an organ donation?
