Online dating is nothing short of a minefield. It's pretty terrifying that you can basically end up sat opposite someone that you don't know anything about, trapped in any manner of awkward situations. From catfishes to ghosts, to orbiters, looking for love via the internet is certainly not for the faint of heart.

And this story has re-ignited the dangers of dating online after a woman was cruelly dumped 2 weeks before she was set to move across the world to move in with "Mr. Right." Yikes.

For many singletons out there, finding love is a priority.

The problem with trying to find love? It's basically a living nightmare at every turn.

Because, in order to find a prince, you've got to date a lot of frogs.

It seems like the universe isn't willing to put the right person in front of you until you've met a lot of the wrong ones first.

But if you thought that dating itself was bad...

Well, first of all, you've got to find someone to date. In the past, many couples met in bars, at farmer's markets, or through friends of friends. But that's simply not the case anymore.

Nowadays, if you want a date, there's really only one place that you can go.

You're going to have to endure the endless, disappointing journey through the various dating apps.

Anyone's who's been on the apps will tell you that they're the worst.

Basically, they act as a neverending reminder that people are, generally, trash.

Apps can be a neverending source of disappointment.

Either people don't look anything like their pictures, they're still obsessed with their ex, or they tell you that they like you and then disappear forever into the ether. It's a jungle out there.

But sometimes apps are more than just disappointing.

Sometimes, they're actually pretty scary because you never really know who you're talking to...

And when you do, they're not as trust-worthy as you originally thought.

One woman was prepared to give up her entire life in Australia and move 9000 miles when she thought she found Mr. Right.

But it turns out her alleged man had a little problem with sticking to his word.

Stephanie Gorton decided she was ready to make the ultimate sacrifice by giving up a stable and ideal life in Australia for a Tinder date in Scotland.

But two weeks before the big move, she was dumped.

It seems as though his feelings weren't as strong as hers and he had to call it quits before she crossed oceans to be with him.

But by then, Stephanie had already quit her job and given up her flat.

She had even shipped some of her belongings to Scotland so they would be there before she arrived.

The unnamed man dropped the bombshell on her after he had gone AWOL for weeks prior.

The pair had dated long distance for a while, with Stephanie even flying out to visit him in different locations as he continued to travel the world.

But then they talked about settling down together...

And Scotland was the chosen destination, with the pair going as far as talking about raising a family in their new home... Yikes.

But she couldn't even get on the flight, let alone move in with him.

Because 2 weeks before the big move, he let her know that he didn't share the same dream anymore.

Speaking to Mamamia, she said this:

"In those four weeks, I was always trying to chase him up... I was even contacting his mom," reported the outlet.

She continued:

"In hindsight, there were red flags all the way through. It wasn't like it was the perfect relationship, there were trust issues... but I adored him."

She also added that she understood it was a big risk.

"I thought it was love, and love 'wasn't supposed to be easy but you fight for it'. That was my mentality."

She recalled the moment of him calling up.

"Steph it's just too hard, it shouldn't be this hard. If it's hard now, it's going to be even harder later," he said. "You're going to come over and have no friends. You'll be relying on me and I am not in a good place financially."

"Let's just take a step back and give it a bit more time."

A very likely story...

But what was the real reason for his sudden change of heart?

Obviously, Stephanie had some suspicions, but she looked into it further despite "[her] heart and gut already knew" what the reason was.

It turns out the mystery man was spending time with other women.

So when he wasn't seeing Stephanie, he was seeing another girl in South America. She also found that he had been lying about other girls that he had been seeing and traveling the world with. Ouch.

But the worst part for her?

Facing her old colleagues again. She went back to ask for her old job and thankfully she got it back but explaining the situation couldn't have been easy.

“I was deeply ashamed."

"The worst part was, tail between my legs, going back to my job, and to all the people who knew that I was supposed to be moving to Scotland in two weeks."

However, all was not lost.

Stephanie ended up starting up her own business where she held workshops and managed to sell it off for a "six-figure sum" and is now earning more than that with her second business.

And just to add extra salt to the mystery man's wound, she's also met someone else.

So who's the real winner? Secure that bag, Steph!

But I've said it before and I'll say it again...
