Four People Including a Child Killed in Mass Shooting | 22 Words

Orange County police are investigating the deaths of 4 people including a child who were shot dead at an Orange office complex on Wednesday evening.

Here's everything we know.

How is this still happening?

It's 2021, and we are still living in fear of these devastating mass shootings.

As soon as the news broke, people took to Twitter to express their heartache and dismay.

4 people, including a child, were killed Wednesday evening, and a fifth person was injured in the mass shooting...

It marks the third mass shooting here in the U.S. in 2 weeks.

Details about the victims and the killer's potential motive are yet to be revealed.

Lt. Jennifer Amat, a spokeswoman for the Orange Police Department, said they received a call at around 5:30 p.m. of shots fired at 202 W. Lincoln Ave. in Orange. The 2-story office complex contains a number of small businesses.

When officers arrived, they opened fire straight away after the gunman started shooting, Amat said.

The shooter was listed in critical condition Wednesday night due to a gunshot wound.

She added there is no current threat to the public. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

The other wounded person, a woman, is reportedly in a critical condition.

The complex contains an insurance office, a marriage therapist, a speech and language pathologist, a phone repair shop, and a number of property management companies.

The specific business that was targeted is still yet to be identified.

Witness, Uvaldo Madrigal, was in his office when he heard shooting...

"They sounded very low, so I didn't think they were gunshots," he said.

When he looked outside, he saw 5 police cars and officers with their guns drawn.

As they were being escorted out by police, Madrigal saw 2 people on stretchers.

"I don't know what condition they were in," he said. "Nothing like this has ever happened around here."

Madrigal initially thought the rounds were being fired indoors.

"Normally when you hear gunshots out in the open they're louder," he said.

"The gunshots just sounded lower, they sounded different."

Eighteen-year-old Nathan Zachary and his father had been cooking dinner when he saw news of the shooting online. The two went outside to see what was going on...

"I couldn't believe it," Zachary said, describing the area as "a safe, really safe area."

"You think that nothing could be going on during your evening, and all of a sudden, it changes really fast," he said. "So much to be careful of these days."

Other neighbors crowded the sidewalk, filming the commotion, later posting it online.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Irvine) wrote on Twitter:

"I'm deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I'm continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more."
