Unless you've been living under a rock, it's likely that you'll have noticed the internet takeover regarding Area 51. If you somehow managed to miss the story, thousands of internet users decided that they were all going to storm Area 51 together, with the understanding that the government can't stop all of us. The idea sparked some of the best memes that the internet has given us in recent months - until it all blew over because of the incredible first look at the trailer for Cats.
But now, an animal shelter in Oklahoma has come up with a bargain for the general public. On the way to pick up their new alien baby from Area 51, they're suggesting that they stop by and pick up a matching fur baby - and the pictures are incredible.
Area 51 has been in the headlines a lot of late.
The mysterious place in Lincoln County, Nevada, has always been kept highly under wraps by the government.Which has led many to believe that there's something going on.
For conspiracy theorists, Area 51 is basically the zenith of all government secrecy. Because so little is known about the place, we can essentially fill it with all manner of fantastical ideas. But the reason that Area 51 has been in the headlines recently?

Well, it's all thanks to one Facebook group. Originally started as a joke, it ended up with tens of thousands of members, all willing to storm the area to find out what's there once and for all.And many took it seriously.
Storming #Area51 would be irresponsible, illegal and potentially dangerous. Besides, once a secret base is routinel… https://t.co/g3h1gmaiF3— Nick Pope (@Nick Pope)1562796111.0
Although many on the internet had a different reaction.

Many of the memes are really brilliant.

So the plan called for an army of Kyles, which, if you aren't aware, is the name that the internet has decided to give white, slightly moody, male teenagers armed with a can of Monster and a stench of Axe body spray. But what made the whole thing even funnier?

But now, Area 51 interest is peaking once more.
And the reason? Well, it's all from quite an unlikely source - an animal shelter in Oklahoma.Oklahoma Animal Welfare, like many shelters, are overrun with abandoned pets.

And, noticing the internet's odd obsession with Area 51, they decided to take matters into their own hands. And their idea was kinda ingenious.
They decided that, if the world was so obsessed with getting a pet alien, you'd think they'd be just as obsessed with getting an actual pet, right? And the way they went about convincing the public?

By putting their adoptable pets in "space." Well, since we're so obsessed with aliens, it kind of makes sense, right? They shared snaps of their animals with a space-age filter.

The images had the caption: "Come storm our shelter... Adoption isn’t that far out of this world!"And that's not all they posted.

They gave some of their dogs makeovers with Alex-Jones-style tinfoil hats. Cute! Why not pick up a pet on the way to storm Area 51?

"We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens," Oklahoma Animal Welfare Shelter claims. And it seems like the push has been largely successful.

Props to the social media team working at the shelter - they've managed to go viral and create a huge uptick in pet adoptions! It's not just dogs who got the space treatment.

This adorable little kitten was captioned with "3 month old male. Super friendly and sweet!" But, if you're interested, you're out of luck - he's now been adopted! Many were a little skeptical of the shelter's push.
