Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and “The Great Wave” by Hokusai have been meticulously blended into a single image that emphasizes the individual beauty of each piece yet the powerful nature of both combined.

The puzzle is already gaining a lot of buzz from everyone, and not just because of the puzzle itself (though that is a big reason why), but because it’s tons of fun!

According to Martin Bailey, a specialist on Vincent van Gogh, the Dutch artist gained inspiration from the “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.”

While both artists were focused on opposite forces of nature, the similarities, when placed side by side, are obvious.

So knowing that the two iconic masterpieces are already linked, makes “Blue Kazoo’s” latest puzzle even more special.

Whether Van Gogh purposefully incorporated elements of “The Great Wave” in “Starry Night” or simply had the image in his subconscious, the overwhelming force of the two pieces combined has left me nothing short of speechless, the rich history of them being told in every individual piece.

So it’s no wonder why people have become so obsessed with it. Artists from all over the world have been left smitten by the combo. Here are just a few of the reactions.

The abstract artist from Berlin plays around with bright colors and brave brushstrokes, so he would know a lot about how this combination works effectively.

“Seeing The Wave merged with Starry Night for me really dramatically changes the feelings I get from the image,” she said. “There’s no blank space so it gives it a more busy aesthetic, but funnily enough I think the inclusion of this specific painting of van Gogh adds to the sense of calm.”

“Whereas before I would look at the wave as a standalone image, now presented with the sky alongside it, it feels more peaceful. And I think it does that because the two works mesh so well together, the circular lines and forms in the sky create a sense of the movement that the waves already have so it just feels like a continuation of one painting rather than two works obviously meshed together.”

“I imagine it could be very therapeutic for people who love to work and sort through colors and tones, as almost the entirety of the painting is all blue (Which itself is a calming color anyway).” We totally agree!

She said this: “I love how they combine so well. It looks like it was meant to be that way! Totally awesome!”

“Separately, these two paintings have totally different meanings and a different style entirely. But once intertwined they work so well together, creating a piece that to me, symbolizes a sort of chaos of the mind,” she said. “And that seems pretty apt for 2020.” Ain’t that the truth?
